-Quadriceps femoris
-Hamstring
-Gastrocnemius
The quadriceps is a four headed muscle in the upper leg. All four divisions of the quadriceps muscle are powerful extensors of the knee joint (Bring the knee parallel to the femur bone).
How to work the quadriceps femoris!
To fully develop the quadriceps, try the leg extensions. The proper technique for performing the leg extension can be found on the "Proven Methods" page.
Contrary to popular belief, the hamstring is not really a solid muscle, but a culmination of synergistic muscles and tendons. The main function of the hamstring is to flex the knee joint (bring from parallel to the femur to any degree less than 180).
How to work the hamstring!
The gastrocnemius (pronounced just how it sounds) is probably the most fun muscle to say. The gastrocnemius is essential for walking (balance and coordination).
How to work the gastrocnemius!
Performed on the "Proven Methods" page, the standing leg raises is one of the best exercises to define your calf muscle.
